Afterr a day of 80 miles and climbing about 4000 feet the previous day, my ride to Rapid City was going to be an easy day. I stayed in a national forest campground just outside of Custer South Dakota.. At night, a rainstorm rolled through with high winds. It was a little unnerving, listening to how loud the winds were through the trees of the campground.and my tent flapped in the gusts. All my provisions were in good shape after the night though. It did take me a little longer to break down my camp and prepare for the day because my tent was wet and it was sprinkling in the morning.

I checked the forecast and it looked like light rain was possible in the afternoon. I stopped in Custer.for a nice breakfast. As I was eating, I noticed that rain had started. My weather app told me that the rain would last an hour and then subside. I waited an hour and the rain just continued hard and steady I had to, get going if I was going to make it to rapid city.

As I was biking along the Mendelsohn trail, I iwent past the Crazy Horse monument. And since the rain was not letting up, and I had always wanted to see this monument,  I stopped in hopes of the rain letting up during my stop

A woman collecting money at the entrance looked at me and decided to let me in, for free. I immediately got on the bus that would take us out to the memorial site. The statue is magnificent in grandeur and intricacy. It is amazing in its current state, an even more amazing what it will become.

Crazy horse was a lakoda military leader. He fought to preserve the traditions of his Lakota, people against the united states government taking their land and their way of life.He was respected by his enemies, as well as his old people.

After being inspired by that memorial, I made it 22 miles ti Hill City, i was completely wet., my brakes didn’t work well, i was very cold and the next 23 miles, were going to be on a very hilly, very busy highway. My host in Rapid City, had already offered me a ride. And since the rain was not letting up in any manner, I decided to take him upon the offer.

My trip is about having adventures as I bike cross country. Those Last 20 plus miles, we’re going to be very cold and dangerous so I took the ride and i’m preparing to ride another day.
