Surprise festival and magical hiking trail

The day started out the same as the previous day. Strong wind out of the south with me, biking straight south on highway 20, a very busy road. I had gotten a late start because I had slept in and had trouble getting going and needed to adjustment my brakes.

I then came upon the iIsand Park Festival.happening at a restaurant right on the highway.  From the pictures, you can see there’s a lot of hunting of animals with people showing their felts.
I talked with Christina and two others from the Henry’s Fork Foundation, a conservation group working to promotes sustainable practices on the henry fork river. They asked all about my bike trip and they told me about their work.
I really enjoyed our conversation. I chatted with a few other people and d just enjoyed a half hour at the festival.

Of course, I couldn’t resist a picture on top of the mouse. I was just about to leave  town when I saw a sign advertising soft serve with real huckleberry ice cream. It tasted heavenly.

Finally back on highway 20 heading south my bike computer gave me the option of taking the mesa falls bypass which was a splendid change of scenery, traffic and less wind. This also allowed me to see spectacular views of mesa falls.

A little ways down the road, i come to a rest stop, where the road continues, but my bike computer is telling me to get on to this hiking trail. Suddenly I’m on this trail with sandhill cranes, major overlooks over a creek, a forested trail, big drop-offs on one side of the trail,  and unique vistas. This was the biggest surprise of my trip so far. It was thrilling and magical.

The trail spits me out, and I’m  thrown  into a big rv park with lots of people where
I come upon a little girl who has fallen off her little bike and skinned her knee  pretty bad She is crying with her sister trying to console her. I stopped to see if someone was going to get help and yes grandma was coming. I made sure that grandma had band aids because I had them. I found out that Grandma was going to be able to take care of her grandchild just fine. Of course she was.

After all, this, I end up in ashton, Idaho only to find out that the Teton pass is closed.
Which I planned on biking on the next day. The teton pass is sort of my “Mount.Everest” of this trip. So I will get up early and get close to the climb and see what happens. It is possible that the pass is open to bicyclists, and not cars which I have good reason to believe.

i just never know what the next day is gonna bring.
